Cost

approx. $2,000,000

Location

Syracuse, New York

Klepper, Hahn & Hyatt provided structural engineering, landscape architecture, and special inspection services for this new 55,000-square-foot steel-framed building on the Syracuse University campus. It serves as a state-of-the-art practice facility for the Syracuse University men’s and women’s basketball programs.

The structure is built into the hillside adjacent to Manley Field House, with three sides of the building retaining the earth load. To work with the drumlin hillside setting, KHH designed a 650-foot-long, terraced retaining wall that approached 26 feet in height. KHH worked closely with the geotechnical engineer to developed detailed drawings which included grading and drainage plans, segmental retaining wall design, erosion control plans, construction phasing drawings and upper hillside restoration plans.

KHH was actively involved during construction, by attending weekly project meetings, on-site visits and the review and approval of the contractor’s payment applications.
