Herkimer Arc Park

Based on Herkimer’s need for a public park accessible to people of all abilities, Arc Herkimer coordinated with the Village of Herkimer to develop the Arc Park. The park is located next to Basloe Field behind the Arc Herkimer Business Park on the site of an old railyard.

This project required collaboration between Klepper, Hahn & Hyatt’s structural engineering and landscape architecture disciplines to create a successful design. The park is encircled by a one-third-mile fitness trail with five exercise stations incorporated along the route. There are multiple playground areas within the park for children of different age ranges. These areas are clearly delineated by a system of sidewalks and program elements. Further down, there is a basketball court with height-adjustable hoops and a bandstand with an attached concession stand.

As part of this project, Basloe Softball Field’s infield drainage was improved. It can now be used by the community more often during wet seasons and sooner after storms. There are benches positioned around the park as well as a sizable family pavilion for those who need a place to rest or prefer a more leisurely park experience. The Arc Park is a great place for outdoor events and for people of all ages to come together as a community.
