KHH at the ACI Design and Installation Awards

Wednesday, April 3, 2019

Early this April, the CNY branch of the American Concrete Institute hosted its annual Design and Installation Awards. The awards honor local projects displaying excellence in concrete and masonry design and installation. This year, Klepper, Hahn & Hyatt nominated two projects for the concrete category and received awards for both.

The first of these projects was The 505 on Walnut apartments. The apartment complex is a 220,000 square-foot, wood-framed, podium style building with a ground level parking garage for residents. The main portion of the podium was framed with concrete joists, beams, and columns. The apartments currently serve as housing for off-campus Syracuse University students and provide a sense of community for residents. This project received the Bronze Award for concrete design and installation.

The second project KHH submitted was Crouse Hospital’s Front Entrance Improvements. The objective of the project was to improve the vehicular and pedestrian traffic at the front of Crouse Hospital. Prior to construction, the traffic in the area was congested and created potentially dangerous conditions for both pedestrians and motorists. To improve these conditions, the project used concrete to delineate pedestrian, parking, and road areas, thus making travel in this corridor easier and safer. A system of heated concrete was used for the sidewalk and valet parking area, which minimized the need for deicing agents in front of the hospital and reduced the amount of maintenance necessary. This project received the Silver Award for concrete design and installation.

We are happy that these projects are successfully serving our community and will continue to do so for years to come. Congratulations to everyone involved with the awarded projects on jobs well done.
